Akron Ale Fest Featured Brewery: Aqueduct Brewing

Who are you and what is your role at the brewery?

Sara Hernandez-owner, bartender, social media manager & Robert Hernandez-operator/brewer, bar manager.

Where did the idea for your logo come from?

Our logo was inspired by the ancient aqueducts of Rome. We are big fans of history (Sara has a B.A. in history). Robert submitted an initial idea to a graphic design student at Ohio State University who helped us design the logo as his final project.

What is your favorite seasonal beer that's been released at your brewery lately?

We are really proud of our Selu Apple Lemon Shandy.  Robert had never made a shandy before this year, so we weren't sure how it would turn out.  Our first 5 gallon keg sold out in less than a week.  He's getting ready to brew his fourth batch in less than a month so that we can hopefully have it on tap for the rest of the summer.

What is your favorite thing in your brewery?

Our favorite part of he brewery is the history that surrounds it. The brewery sits in one of the original Burkhardt Brewing Company buildings. The original brickwork gives customers a snapshot of this history, while also providing a comfortable feel to the brewery.  The Burkhardt Brewing Company encapsulated Wolf Creek within the building to use for brewing, which you can still see flowing through the building today.

What is your most recent milestone?

We are currently going through another small expansion. We are adding more taps and upgrading our fermentation, carbonation and kegging equipment.

What is your next major goal for the brewery?

We never set major goals for the brewery on any kind of timeline.  Our goal has always been to slowly grow the brewery, but only to a certain point. We will eventually upgrade to a 5 barrel brew system and that is as big as we want to get.

Lion, wolf, or dragon who will win and why?

Dragon would win because he can breathe fire, fly, and has wicked talons.
