Who are you and what is your role at the brewery?
Fred Karm, Founder And Brewmaster.
Where did the idea for your logo come from?
The idea for our Brewery name and logo came from my nickname, and past Brewing history. My nickname has always been Frog, because my Dad's name is also Fred. We called ourselves Hoppin' Frog because I became very good with using hops to make beer. I had won three prestigious medals at the Great American Beer Festival with a hoppy beer, so I was known throughout Ohio as being an expert with hops when I started my brewery.
I wanted a logo that was timeless, and could be put on anything from a sign to a poster to being embroidered on a shirt. So, I worked with a graphic designer, and over 12 beer dinners with with family and friends who were marketing experts and various other people in and out of the industry, we were able to design our logo based on what I wanted. I knew I wanted a tree frog type of frog with big cuppy fingers and toes. And, a tough-looking frog that looked like a brewer.
What is your favorite seasonal beer that's been released at your brewery lately?
What is your favorite thing in your brewery?
I think the one thing that stands out in my Brewery that has the best story for Hoppin' Frog is the gavel that we received from having the alcohol limit abolished in Ohio. From the start of Hoppin' Frog, I have been an active voice with Ohio legislative activities to promote various interests for breweries statewide. After 10 years in business, Last Summer the alcohol limit was finally abolished for beer, and they thought it was appropriate to give me the gavel from the final court session to do that. Now, we're making several high-alcohol beers and call including a beer called Gavel Slammer, which is only available at the brewery.
What is your most recent milestone?
Hoppin' Frog's most recent milestone is reaching the four-year mark with our Tasting Room at the brewery. This is a huge milestone, because passing the four-year mark in business or relationships is a sign of longevity and sustainable success.
What is your next major goal for the brewery?
Our next major goal for our brewery is to get our beer in smaller bottles or cans. And we have just begun to reach that goal this summer, with the release of our new Grapefruit Turbo Shandy in 12 oz cans. Next we expect to have various Hoppin' Frog beers in 12 oz bottles. And we expect to have that sometime this year.
