Meet the Maker: Whiskertin

You may have seen this teams work without knowing it. Whiskertin is a new business however they are already doing big things. Their craft lighting can be seen making rooms seen in various night locals in the Akron/Cleveland area. Make sure to get your ticket to the Akron Ale Fest in order to get to check out breweries like his first hand!

Who are you and what is your business?

My name is Aaron Novak, and my partners name is Glenn Miller. Our business consists of hand made lamps of all different types. I work in the HVAC field and most of our products are made from sheet metal/scrap duct from job sites.

How do you do it?

We started a shop in my basement. This started about 7 months ago as basically a trial and error type situation. We had no clue that things would take off for us like they have. Everything is hand made and all the designs are made up by us. We do custom orders. If you can draw it on paper we can make a light out of it.

What is your favorite “thing”?

I play in a punk rock band called "worship this!" We do a lot of local and touring shows. My 2 daughters are my favorite things. Glenn is into vintage cars and motorcycles.

Do you have a recent milestone?

Things just took off for us so quickly. We made 6 lights for Great Lakes Brewery out of their kegs. They are all installed in the basement bar. We also made 4 keg lights for the new Rays Pub set to open in Highland Square. We also did 4 custom lights for The Matinee in Highland square.

What are your current goals? Our goal is to find a space in Akron to open a whiskertin lighting store. We plan for early next year, but could possibly happen sooner than expected.

What inspires you?

Inspiration comes from music, and other local artists work. I spent a weekend in Brooklyn NY and roamed the city realizing that every bar or public space I walked into had hand crafted lights. These businesses don't go to Home Depot to by their decor. I couldn't wait to get home from that to start some new whiskertin designs

What drives you? I've never been a sit around and watch Tv person. I'm in constant motion. I love meeting new people and being part of a community of like minded people

Why are you excited for The Akron Ale Fest?

This is our first show. We have no clue what to expect, but we can't wait to get out there.
